• Pearls (in different sizes)
• Black paper
• Glue
• Scissors and pencil
• Sticker gems
• Picture frame (ours was upcycled)

DIY Moon Decor

Take your black paper and outline it with a crescent moon shape as a guide for once you start gluing. I had black construction paper but I think that a harder card stock paper would work better for this.

Working in sections, cover the inside of the moon outline with glue.

Add different sized pearls until the glue is completely covered.

Continue gluing until your moon shape has formed.

Add a few sticker gems around the crescent moon to resemble twinkling stars. Wait until the glue is completely dry. This will probably take a day, especially if a large portion of the page is covered with glue!

Once everything is dry, place the finished moon decor inside of a frame.

This DIY is super easy and fun to make! You can work with kids to make their own moon, and you can change the sizes depending on the frame!

Display and enjoy your moon decor!

I’m a big fan of easy crafts, especially if they involve yarn or beads! In the past I’ve made these yarn wrapped hearts and these pipe cleaner bracelets with my kids. Since Christmas is fast approaching I wanted to make some fun yarn wrapped Christmas tree ornaments. I wish I had more colorful yarn but these turned out great!

How to Make Yarn wrapped Christmas Tree Ornaments

Start by cutting out a tree shape out of your cardboard. Also cut a piece of yarn that will be used to hang your ornament.

Fold the yarn and hot glue in place, this will be the hook for the ornament. You can also use tape since it will be covered by the yarn.

Add hot glue to the bottom of the cardboard and wrap yarn to form the Christmas tree trunk.

Next, starting at the top add more hot glue and attach your yarn. I find that thicker or fluffier yarn works best because it covers up the cardboard better. Continue wrapping around the cardboard.

Add a bit of hot glue throughout to hold the yarn in place. Continue wrapping until you’ve reached the bottom and then glue the last piece into place.

Next, attach beads or buttons to the Christmas tree ornaments.

Then you just have to hang them on your Christmas tree or anywhere else you need some decorations.

And if you’d like to make this craft with your kids, simple sub out the hot glue and use tape. The back might not look at great with tape sticking on it but the front is still adorable!

• Bottle brush trees

How to Make a Dollar Store Decorative Christmas Jar

I bought a vase from the dollar store but this Christmas jar could be easily made with upcycled mason jars, pickle jars or vases. Start by adding a layer of Epsom salts in the bottom of the jar. This will be the “snow.”

Next, arrange your bigger pieces inside the jar, such as the bottle brush trees.

Add in your Christmas village figurines. The dollar store had a lot of great options so you can choose whichever ones you want. They had animals, carolers and even street lamp figurines.

Add more Epsom salts over top of the figurines to hold them in place and give them the “snowy” look.

Next, just place your decorative Christmas jar where you need some holiday cheer. I placed mine on the mantle, but it would make a great centerpiece too!

My daughter received a bouquet of beautiful flowers for her birthday and I wanted to preserve them so they could be displayed for longer!

How to Dry Flowers Upside Down

You really don’t need many materials to get started, just your flowers, twine and some painters tape (so you don’t ruin your walls.) The first thing I did was lay the flowers on paper towels to dry off. I had every intention of drying the tiger lilies too, but they were dropping so much pollen I decided against it.

Next, remove any wilting leaves and petals from the flowers.

I collected the flowers and bunched them up. Then I used twine to tie them together.

Next, I hung the bunches of flowers upside down. You can hang them from a hook, a clothesline, or a hanger. I used painters tape and taped the twine and flowers to my wall. This way my walls wouldn’t get ruined and I could see the flowers hanging when I walked by. Make sure to hang the flower bunches in a dry and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

The hardest part of drying your flowers is over, now you just have to wait for them to dry. It usually takes about two or three weeks to dry completely. The time it takes to dry varies on each flower so you’ll have to check to see if they’re dry.

The flowers are dry when the petals are crisp and the stems are brittle.

Once your flowers are dried you can use them for crafts, floral arrangements, or decorations. Make sure to store them someplace dry and if you want to put them back into a vase they’re ready for that too! You can also spray them with some hairspray or an acrylic sealer to preserve them a bit longer.

I must admit I left my Christmas decor up a lot longer than I should have. I didn’t even want to change it over to a winter theme. The season was so busy I didn’t have time to post my mantel, I went opposite to the minimalist mantel I did the previous Christmas. Maybe I can show you the projects I made next Christmas?

Simple Spring Mantel Inspiration

Anyways, I was looking for a quick and simple spring mantel inspiration so I checked Pinterest and trusty google and there were so many elaborate decorations! Plus a lot of amazing DIY projects I could have made. Instead I went through my box of decor and found this coral pink peony garland I had previous bought at Michaels. If you don’t want to spend the money for a 6 foot garland you could grab some flowers and greenery from the dollar store and place them across your mantel, or attach them with floral wire to make your own garland.

I was gifted these beautiful milk glass vases that a friend found at a thrift store. I’ll never say no to more candles or candlesticks! They’re bright white and nicely blend into the fireplace brick. I’m going to keep an eye out for pink candles that would match my peonies, I think a pop of color would be nice here!

Finally, I finished it off by using a neutral colored basket filled it with some pillows, a blanket and a bead garland. Nothing fancy but definitely useful space for my pillows.

And there you have it, a simple spring mantel inspiration using flowers, greenery and a couple of candlesticks! And if this spring mantel will last as long as my Christmas mantel did, it will still work for summer too.
