How to Make Upcycled Wall Art

Cut your clothing featuring the image you want to use for your upcycled wall art. Just make sure there is extra fabric that is bigger than the embroidery hoop.

Separate an embroidery hoop into 2 pieces.

Place the smaller piece of the hoop behind your tshirt or sweater. Then place the top of the hoop over the shirt until it fits snugly with the back of the hoop. Tighten the hoop so that it stays in place.

Cut off any excess fabric and fold over the rest as shown. Hot glue or tape the fabric to stay in place.

This is a really easy way to use your favorite clothing, that may look a bit worn or is unwearable, and turn it into a fun art project. Keep it even more simple and let your kids do the cutting, tightening and folding. You can skip the hot glue gun and use tape instead.

Just hang up your wall art and you’ve got a sweet personalized decoration.

• Cardboard box or shoe box
• Scrapbook paper
• Paint and paintbrushes
• Fabric
• Water bottle lid
• Popsicle sticks
• Hot glue
• Scissors or Exacto knife

Important: This fun activity is great for all ages, but adult supervision is advised to ensure a safe craft experience. Especially since you’ll be handling a hot glue gun and cutting popsicle sticks!

DIY Cardboard Box Dollhouse

Paint the outside and inside of your cardboard box. Also, paint your popsicle sticks with brown paint. (This box used about 33 popsicle sticks.)

Once the box is dry, cover the inside back and sides with scrap book paper to resemble wall paper.

If you’d like to make windows and doors now is the time to carefully cut them out. You could also take fabric pieces and a wooden dowel to resemble a curtain and rod to place over the window. Additionally, you can use more fabric to make a small carpet. 

Next, carefully cut both ends of your painted popsicle sticks.

Hot glue the popsicle sticks onto the bottom of the box to make a wooden floor.

Next take a water bottle lid and carefully poke a hole in the centre. Place a piece of string through the hole and tie into place. Hot glue a piece of fabric around the lid to resemble a lamp shade. 

Tape or glue the string to the top of the box to make a light fixture. We also wrapped some aluminum foil around a bracelet and made a mirror! 

Now just add more more furniture or make your own!

There are so many ways to decorate your own dollhouse. Add doll furniture you already own or use extra cardboard to make furniture and accessories.

This wall art is a great addition to a little boy or girls room! You can personalize it with different colors, patterns or letters from the birthday cards you or your kids have received. And since you can get all the materials from the dollar store you won’t need to spend a lot on this art project.

• Old birthday cards or decorative paper
• Wood canvas
• Paint in colors of your choice
• Mod Podge
• Paint brushes
• Scissors

DIY Wall Art Using Birthday Cards

Start by painting your wood canvas in a color of your choice. I chose pink and white to match my daughter’s birthday cards. Let your wood canvas dry.

In the meantime, cut out your birthday cards and use which pieces you want to use for your wall art. I cut out a ballerina and diamond pieces.

Position your card pieces on the wood canvas and use Mod Podge to glue them down.

Next, cover the board with Mod Podge and use a paint brush to spread the glue evenly. Let dry completely.

And there you have it! A completely simple DIY wall art using birthday cards.

It’s simple! You only need an old tshirt and a pair of scissors

How to Make a No-Sew Tshirt Bag

Lay your tshirt down on a flat surface and start by cutting the sleeves along the armhole.

Since my shirt had buttons I chose not to cut the neckband. This part will be the handles.

Cut evenly sized strips along the entire length of the bottom opening.

At this point I turned the cut shirt inside out (you don’t have to turn your tshirt inside out if you don’t mind the knots at the bottom of the bag, but I wanted to hide mine.) Then I started tying double knots, connecting the front and back fabric. I continued all the way until the bottom opening was sealed.

Then I flipped my tshirt bag back and it was ready to use!

Easy Handmade Mother’s Day Card

You can upcycle old buttons or buy thrifted or dollar store buttons. I used leftover buttons from this monogram letter craft.

Start by drawing thin lines on the front of the cardstock . This will be the flower stems. Make each stem a different length. 

Next draw leaves at the bottom of the stems. 

Choose which buttons you’ll use as the flower (big, small or Moms favorite color). Glue a button on the top of each green stem.

Seriously, it’s that easy! Just make sure you let the buttons dry onto the card stock before you put it in an envelope.

All you have left to do is write a sweet message on the inside.
