I must admit I left my Christmas decor up a lot longer than I should have. I didn’t even want to change it over to a winter theme. The season was so busy I didn’t have time to post my mantel, I went opposite to the minimalist mantel I did the previous Christmas. Maybe I can show you the projects I made next Christmas?

Simple Spring Mantel Inspiration

Anyways, I was looking for a quick and simple spring mantel inspiration so I checked Pinterest and trusty google and there were so many elaborate decorations! Plus a lot of amazing DIY projects I could have made. Instead I went through my box of decor and found this coral pink peony garland I had previous bought at Michaels. If you don’t want to spend the money for a 6 foot garland you could grab some flowers and greenery from the dollar store and place them across your mantel, or attach them with floral wire to make your own garland.

I was gifted these beautiful milk glass vases that a friend found at a thrift store. I’ll never say no to more candles or candlesticks! They’re bright white and nicely blend into the fireplace brick. I’m going to keep an eye out for pink candles that would match my peonies, I think a pop of color would be nice here!

Finally, I finished it off by using a neutral colored basket filled it with some pillows, a blanket and a bead garland. Nothing fancy but definitely useful space for my pillows.

And there you have it, a simple spring mantel inspiration using flowers, greenery and a couple of candlesticks! And if this spring mantel will last as long as my Christmas mantel did, it will still work for summer too.

We finally painted out brick fireplace, check out the before and after here. Since we finished painting close to November I couldn’t wait to decorate it for Christmas. I wanted to keep it simple, minimalist and able to easily transform from Christmas to winter decor. It turned out beautiful!

Minimalist Christmas and Winter Fireplace

To start I got a large evergreen garland and laid it on the mantel. The garland felt a bit lonely so I made my own pearl garland. I also added single pearls onto ornament hooks and attached them to the garland.

Next I wanted a mirror that matched the fireplace insert and could be used year round. I made sure to secure it and used the garland to hide any spots showing.

I found these clear acrylic reindeer at the dollar tree! They cost about a dollar each and I painted them white and put them throughout the mantel. They each needed 3 coats of paint but I think spray painting may have been a bit easier. I feel like these would look amazing with silver or gold paint too.

A good friend suggested that I add a red nose to one of the reindeer and turn him into Rudolph. Of course that turned out amazing and gives just a tiny bit of color to my minimalist Christmas fireplace. To all the people that love cheerful and bright Christmas colors rest assured that I did include that in other parts of the house! The tree is colorful and so is a lot of the other decor.

I found this wire basket at the dollar store and added birch wood pieces that I cut to fit. Since the fireplace is actually a working wood burning one I think the touch of wood was just right.

Of course nothing is more cozy than a blanket (you can never have enough blankets) so that was added into a neutral basket.

This minimalist Christmas fireplace really came together with each piece. Everything cost less than $100 and there’s still enough space to add personal touches. Stockings, a Christmas village or even lights would look great added in.

Materials We Used

We have a wood burning fireplace, it has been used for years but we weren’t sure if we would use it again for that purpose. So just in case we did decided to use it again we made sure to use high heat paint so that it doesn’t peel off. Here is everything we used for this make over:

• Plastic Sheeting & Brown Paper Roll

Brick Fireplace Makeover

First we cleaned, removed the cover and spray painted the fireplace insert. If you’re using heat enamel paint you will have to start a fire to seal the paint. It dries pretty quickly and turns into a nice matte color.

Once the insert was completely dry we covered it with plastic sheeting and washed the brick using TSP Plus, a concentrated cleaning solution. This part gets messy as you’re scrubbing the brick from all the dust and dirt!

Once the brick is clean and dry we made sure the wood mantel and floor were covered and got to painting. I think this part was easier than cleaning the brick!

Even though the brick is very porous we only have to do one coat of white paint!

This definitely took more than 1 weekend to complete but overall I think the longest part was waiting for everything to dry.

I love how the matte black turned out. We are keeping the wood mantel the same because it matches our windows nearby.

The white just brightens up the entire living room. It’s so much bolder and a real focal piece in the room. I can’t wait to start decorating! What do you think of our brick fireplace makeover?
