I don’t know about you but we have SO MANY puzzles. The kids love them but once they outgrow them (or more likely lose half the pieces) it’s time to throw them away. But so many puzzles come in cute tin boxes. I wanted to upcycle the tin box into a gift box for Christmas. What’s great is you can do this with any tin container and any size. Even if you have a cookie tin, that you’re not using as a sewing kit haha consider upcycling it and filling it with gifts and treats.

• Any size tin box
• Paint color of your choice, we picked white.
• Paint brush
• Stamps and stamp pad
• Twine, ribbon or decorative bow

Repurposed Tin Gift Boxes

First thing to do it clean your tin box, Sometimes it’s full of finger prints or glue so just wipe it down.

Paint the entire outside of the tin box. Keep the inside clear of paint.

Let fully dry and reapply another coat. 2 coats is usually enough but wait until it’s fully dry to paint another coat.

Once dry the fun part starts. You can decorate the outside however you want! You can use stickers, stamps or even more paint.

I wasn’t sure who I was going to give the gift box to for Christmas so I just wrote “For You” on the front with some letter stamps. But this is the perfect time to get creative, I would love to learn calligraphy to be able to hand write someone’s name for that added personal touch.

Then you fill the inside of the repurposed tin gift box with tissue paper and you’re ready to go!

I added a decorative bow to the front and I was done!

I felt like the bow was cute but it just needed something extra, I chose to give it more of a rustic look by adding twine.

Isn’t the repurposed tin gift box just darling? I can’t wait to gift it for Christmas!
