We have big home office plans. We recently got our own computers (no more sharing! Yay) but we need to move our computers into a designated office space. We plan to take over the kids play room (sorry kids) but we’re waiting for them to get a bit older and outgrow the playroom. Although, most of the toys migrate around the house anyways so do kids even use their playrooms? Anyways, my favorite part of any renovation or update is decorating so I’ve already started thinking about office decor.

I got this popsicle stick pencil holders idea as I was making these makeup organizers using tin cans and fabric. I always seem to have a collection of cans and popsicle sticks are always overflowing from the craft drawer! So why not do an upcycling project and keep all the office supplies organized?

You’ll need:

  • Tin cans
  • Popsicle sticks (we used 27 per can)
  • Gold paint
  • Black paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Easy Black and Gold Popsicle Stick Pencil Holders

Start by collecting enough popsicle sticks that your tin can will be completely covered. I needed 27 for each can but that number may change depending on the size of your tin can. Paint your popsicle sticks with gold and black paint and then wait for it to dry.

I decided to paint the tin cans as well. If I could do it again I would also paint the sides of the popsicle sticks so the wood color isn’t showing through once it’s finished. Wait for everything to completely dry.

Add a line of hot glue along the unpainted gold side of a popsicle stick and quickly glue it onto the tin can. You will have to work fast as the glue dries quickly. After you’ve made sure that the stick is straight you can continue by adding glue directly to the tin can instead of the popsicle sticks.

Continue gluing until your can is completely covered.

Do the same for the black popsicle sticks.

Now just fill your popsicle stick pencil holders with pens, pencils, markers, scissors or any office supplies you need to get off your desk!
