Hot chocolate bombs are so popular right now! We got gifted some for Christmas and had a lot of fun watching them melt into creamy hot chocolate.

We wanted to make our own but didn’t have the molds and quite frankly don’t have the patience to melt chocolate and wait for it to harden again. Instead we decided to keep it simple and turn Kinder® Surprise® eggs into hot chocolate bombs.

Materials needed to make hot chocolate bombs including Kinder eggs, powdered hot chocolate and mini marshmallows.

All you need for these homemade hot cocoa bombs are

  • Kinder® Surprise® eggs (or any hollow chocolate)
  • 2 teaspoons powdered hot chocolate mix
  • 1 teaspoon mini marshmallows
  • Candy (optional)
  • Microwave safe plate
  • Milk

How to Make Kinder Egg Hot Chocolate Bombs

We bought Kinder® Surprise® Eggs (they’re the kids favorite!) and carefully pulled apart the eggs to have two shells. The kids took the toys right away! I think they were more excited for the toys to be honest.

Fill one egg with hot chocolate powder mix, mini marshmallows and any candy pieces you want to add to your hot chocolate bomb.

Warm up a plate in the microwave for about 1 minute (every microwave is different but you want your plate to be hot enough to melt chocolate.) Place the second half of the chocolate egg shell on the plate so the edges start to melt.

Next quickly add the two chocolate shells together and your hot chocolate bomb is done!

Now all you need to do is pour some warm milk over the hot chocolate bomb and enjoy the yummy goodness.

The hot chocolate bombs turned out delicious and were so simple to make.
