Who else spends endless time on Facebook marketplace looking at furniture and hoping to find that one special piece? I was excited when my sister came across this buffet table because I knew she had found a treasure (plus the price was right). You don’t need any paint to refinish most buffet tables, just sand paper, a bit of elbow grease and some accessories. Check out the before and after of this antique buffet makeover and how I managed to keep the charm of this beautiful piece.

Antique Buffet Makeover
Painting a buffet sideboard is usually a popular choice when the original paint starts chipping or looking worn. I chose a journey less travelled and embraced the raw beauty of the wood and decided to sand off the paint and add a bit of wax. This process took a bit longer than expected because it needed 3 steps for sanding. Starting with an 80 grit sandpaper and working my way 120 grit and finally 220 grit.

Once sanding was done, I applied the liming wax with a rag all over the buffet table. The wax works itself into the grain of the wood and highlights all the texture of the natural wood.
Next, I removed the drawers and add these beautiful flower drawer liners.

Finally, I replaced the old knobs with new bronzed ones.

I think this antique buffet makeover turned out beautifully! The buffet table still has the timeless look and the extra touches give it a bit of elegance.

Would you paint a buffet table or would you rather sand it?
