Yarn wrapped hearts are an easy, quick and mess-free DIY. They’re perfect for Valentine’s day decor, as garland or gift wrap. And with so many color choices you can make them as neutral or colorful as you want.
I know red and pink hearts are perfect for Valentine’s day but black is my favorite color, so of course I had to make black yarn hearts. I also chose a maroon colored yarn to match the black. I really like how the colors matched each other.
All you need for these yarn wrapped hearts are 4 items:
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Tape (optional)
Yarn Wrapped Hearts
Choose a thinner yarn, I don’t think the chunky yarn turned out as good. They are still cute but they turned out a bit thicker.
Start by tracing and cutting out cardboard hearts. You can make them any size and use cardboard instead of card stock or paper. You want it to be sturdy.
Start by taping the the yarn onto the cardboard heart. You can skip this step if you want because once you start wrapping the yarn will stay in place. But, I found it easier to start with the tape, and this is easier if you’re making yarn wrapped hearts with kids.
Wrap the yarn around the cardboard.
Keep wrapping in different directions. Wrap until the cardboard is covered and the heart is chunky looking.
Once done, loop the last piece with a secured piece of yarn and tie a knot. Cut off any excess yarn.
I know hearts are popular for Valentine’s day but with all the different types of yarn you can use these hearts can be used as decor year round.
